Title: Major Gifts Officer

Location: Dallas, TX

Reports To: Senior Director of Major Gifts

Supervises: Volunteers

Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt 

 

Summary:  The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for overseeing fundraising programs within a designated region, including major gifts, special campaigns, planned giving, and fundraising for statewide advocacy efforts.  Additional key responsibilities include:  (1) fundraising and relationship-building activities with individual donors, and (2) identifies, cultivates, and stewards major gifts.  Ensures productivity expectations and compliance standards are maintained. Abides by the organization’s mission in performing job duties.  Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to quality health care and excellent customer service.

 

Essential Job Functions & Expectations:

  • Manages the Major Gifts program and conducts fundraising activities for designated region.
  • Makes face-to-face solicitations for both major and planned gifts and provides staff support for solicitations in coordination with executive leadership and leadership volunteers.
  • Develops and implements a coordinated, year-round Major Gifts plan and timetable, including setting target goals and monitoring results. 
  • Manages major gift solicitations, solicitation procedures and cultivation of donors from the earliest planning stages through implementation and follow-up within designated region.
  • Manages the mentoring of solicitors within designated region to assure their success in fundraising.
  • Develops and implements plan to strategically build and maintain donor base, including setting target goals and monitoring results.
  • Works with the development team to engage in systematic research on prospective donors to identify sources of support and to supply solicitors with prospect information.
  • Builds effective and trustworthy relationships with major donors, board members, foundation trustees, staff and community leaders.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to all donors within designated region.
  • Manages planning giving solicitations, solicitation procedures and cultivation of donors from the earliest planning stages through implementation and follow-up.
  • Manages Major Gifts fundraising for statewide advocacy efforts.
  • Develops and implements a coordinated, year-round plan and timetable for statewide advocacy fundraising, including setting target goals and monitoring results.
  • Manages statewide advocacy fundraising solicitations, solicitation procedures and cultivation of donors from the earliest planning stages through implementation and follow-up.
  • Attends meetings for statewide advocacy efforts and works collaboratively with staff from other organizations.
  • Participates in Development staff meetings. 
  • In conjunction with the Senior Vice President of Development, Senior Director of Major Gifts, and other senior leadership, develops effective strategies and leads efforts to achieve the fundraising and outreach goals for area of responsibility.
  • Partners with the leadership team to enhance community visibility, establish donor relations, etc.
  • Keeps current on changing trends in philanthropy and adjusts programs and strategies as needed.
  • Assures compliance with the Board of Director’s governance policies on development as well as the standards established by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
  • Assures that all fundraising materials and any communication with the public maintain the highest standards of integrity and honesty.
  • Serves as a role model for staff in quality of work, competence, standards of behavior, initiative, teamwork, and compliance with organization policies.
  • Manages volunteer committees that support major gifts, planned giving, and special campaigns.
  • Accepts public speaking engagements as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with other appropriate staff, develops printed materials needed for fundraising (e.g. instructional materials, pledge cards, brochures, envelopes, mailing pieces).
  • Promotes and facilitates integration, collaboration and teamwork between all departments throughout the organization to advance the overall plans and initiatives. 
  • Provides input relating to Development work plan, policies, systems, and procedures. 
  • Produces timely and accurate reports to Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and regulatory agencies as requested.
  • Maintains knowledge of abortion and family planning regulations and implements changes as necessary.
  • Represents the organization at meetings, community events, conferences, and fundraising events, as appropriate.
  • Has restricted access to client private health information and has no reason to view protected health information (PHI).   May have access to data that is not considered PHI, such as aggregate numbers.
  • Ensures achievement of agency goals, vision and mission. 
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:  

Minimum Education:  Bachelor’s degree.  

Minimum Experience:  5 years of professional fundraising experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications:  CFRE preferred

Agency Standards:  Must have excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet. Must have the willingness and ability to adapt to change including advances or new technology. Must have excellent customer service skills and be committed to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to travel within and outside organization region as job dictates.
  • Ability to effectively perform a variety of development functions including annual campaigns, major gifts, events, planned giving, and special campaigns.
