The High Level

Reading Partners North Texas seeks a highly organized and creative self-starter for our Development Manager role. This position is an exciting opportunity for someone who has experience in nonprofit fundraising with a focus on communications and corporate and individual giving. They must adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.


The Development Manager reports to the Development Director and works closely with team members across all departments. The Development Manager will support the achievement of regional fundraising and volunteer recruitment goals in close partnership with the Community Engagement and Development teams by driving development operations and managing external communications. This position is full-time and based in our North Texas office. The Development Manager will be responsible for the activities below at varying points throughout our fiscal year.


What you’ll do:

Manage a portfolio of corporate, foundation and individual relationships to contribute to the development team’s goal of over $1.2M annually.

  • Lead our North Texas Giving Day and annual appeal fundraising campaigns from August through mid-January to raise approximately $50K-$60K, which includes donor mailings, online campaign creation and campaign analysis.

  • Coordinate additional fundraising campaigns needed in the spring and manage any peer-to-peer campaigns throughout the year

  • Work closely with the development director and executive director to implement our individual giving strategy including the engagement of multi-year and major donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders 

  • Assist in writing foundation grant applications and reports for an assigned portfolio of stakeholders.

  • Play an integral role in annual budget planning helping to predict and weigh future donations and advise on individual and board member donor strategy to create realistic revenue projections for the annual $2.6M+ budget

  • Manage the stewardship plans for recurring and multi-year donors 

  • Assist with the management of corporate donors and planned giving stewardship plans

  • Assist with the planning and logistics of events including fundraisers, supporter appreciation events, etc. 

  • Manage the development pipeline and build strategies to diversify our individual and corporate donor pools

  • Other duties as assigned to advance the mission of the development department

Oversee fundraising operations, research and database management:

  • Manage the donor database and act as the quality assurance officer and collaborate with and consult National to improve development operations

  • Produce reports and analyze data to inform and advance our development strategy

  • Process 500+donations annually and issue tax receipts and acknowledgments in a timely manner

  • Innovate and find new ways of thanking and acknowledging our donors 

  • Conduct research on high-net-worth donors and prospects through WealthEngine and make recommendations for an outreach approach 

Other responsibilities

  • Contribute to the building of the organizational structure, culture, and the improvement of internal processes

  • Communication: Effectively write and edit high-quality donor communications, grant proposals, and reports that demonstrate deep knowledge of our program and promote our mission. Through exceptional writing, serve as an ambassador of Reading Partners. 

  • Project Management: Pay strong attention to detail and manage competing priorities effectively. Create innovative solutions in the face of competition for resources, time, etc. with a high degree of adaptability and flexibility. Anticipate challenges and/or questions, and proactively execute solutions. Understand larger strategic priorities and make measurable progress against these larger goals. 

  • Problem Solving & Decision Making: Demonstrate an ability to problem-solve through challenges and failures, finding win-win solutions. Make quick, sound, and on-the-fly decisions that consider all stakeholders. See the bigger picture and drill down to smaller details to connect the dots.

  • We offer competitive compensation that is commensurate with experience. This is an exempt, full-time position. Pay for this position starts at $65,000 - $67,200.

Minimum Qualifications:

About you!

You’ll be successful in this role if you:


  • Have 2+ years of previous fundraising/development experience or related role

  • Boast a deep belief in and passionately promote our mission

  • Have experience in donor communication, cultivation, and stewardship 

  • Demonstrated experience in donor database management and fundraising operations

  • Have a high level of comfort with new technology systems including Salesforce, Classy, Google Apps, and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Comfort with donor research and prospecting

  • Demonstrate the ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations

  • Can prove eligibility to work in the U.S. legally
