Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the CEO, the Vice President of Development is responsible for developing, establishing and implementing a strategic plan of private sector funding and relational support for the comprehensive services and programs of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. The integrated development plan will include appropriate funding from: grants; corporations, foundations, individuals, organizations, faith groups and associations.

This senior level position works closely with the executive team, board members and colleagues throughout Habitat to implement strategies to increase awareness of and support for the organization's mission and goals.

This position is responsible for his/her own portfolio of major gift donors; providing leadership and direction for development directors and staff; developing and managing budgets; overseeing development operations including records management; providing leadership for the Board's Mission Advancement Committee; identifying and engaging new funding constituencies; etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic funding plan for private support of Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity
  • Identify, support and secure gifts from a portfolio of major gift donors focusing on foundations, individuals, and encompassing corporations and others
  • Establish annual revenue targets, generate and monitor the development department budget for progress against goals, providing regular reports to the CEO, senior team and Board of Directors
  • Develop and manage overall department budget with directors managing individual team budgets
  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies, systems, and procedures that will support fundraising stability and growth
  • Provide leadership for development day-to-day operations, including, but not limited to, records management, Development goals and metrics for the department
  • Develop, implement and manage strategies for engaging with promising individuals and philanthropic organizations who align with our values to establish relationships, secure commitments for DAHFH support, and find new prospects to continue expanding our mission
  • Lead creation of high-priority and high-quality fundraising materials, including crafting key narratives
  • Provide direction for development messaging and programs implemented through special events, E-philanthropy, and other programs of donor communications
  • Lead team of professionals by setting annual individual and team performance goals, conducting regular reviews to evaluate progress and providing professional development opportunities that continually elevate the department's effectiveness and efficiency
  • Lead the Mission Advancement Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Ensure that direct reports are appropriately trained to discuss DAHFH services in meetings with internal, external constituents and advisors. Train staff to present and respond to inquiries and about DAHFH and DAHFH service offerings

Qualifications and Skills Required (Minimum):

  • Proven track record of major and annual fundraising experience
  • Experience managing a portfolio of individual, foundation and corporate donors and prospects
  • Ability to construct, articulate and implement annual strategic development plan
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work under pressure, plan personal workload effectively and delegate
  • Ability and dedication to learn new skills quickly, exhibit flexibility while serving as an effective team leader and team player
  • Proven track record of effective team management and results driven leadership of a senior team
  • Knowledge of profit and loss, balance sheet and cashflow management and general finance and budgeting
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to handle both internal and external conflicts
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Education and/or Experience Required (Minimum):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing or relevant degree
  • 6-8 years of corporate or nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Knowledge of the non-profit development, fundraising, business and civic community in the north Texas area a plus
  • Progressive thinker and visionary with complete understanding of fundraising management and external relations
  • Professional and cooperative manner and the ability to work with community leadership, board members and donors outside the organization
  • Experience in recruiting, training and motivating staff and volunteers
  • Previous executive management experience is a plus
  • Strong professional written and verbal communications and outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated passion for and understanding of the organization's mission, vision and values
  • Demonstrated success in major gifts solicitation
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving and technical skills
  • High energy, clear goal orientation and strong work ethic
  • Ability to participate in and facilitate team-oriented and group meetings
  • Ability to represent Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity with diverse audiences
  • Experience in linking fundraising efforts to community impact; good knowledge about community impact work, metrics
