Phoenix House of Texas seeks a strategic and innovative development professional to become its Director of Development. The successful candidate will be committed to Phoenix House mission and serve as a frontline fundraiser and strategist. S/he will evaluate and build upon Phoenix House of Texas' existing program, formulate strategies to increase philanthropic support, and engage existing board members and recruit new board members to expand contributed income.

The Director of Development will be a generalist, capable of major gift solicitation, as well as other aspects of fundraising. S/he will serve as a strategic partner to the Senior Vice President, California and Texas Executive Director and to the board and will actively engage all board members in fundraising activities.

The Director of Development will report to the SVP, CA & TX Executive Director and will work with the program/clinical teams to articulate compelling messaging and cases for philanthropic support, manage a portfolio of donor prospects, support the SVP, CA & TX Executive Director on tactics and strategies for specific development activities, implement annual appeal efforts, and create and manage a pipeline of prospects.

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • An accomplished front-line major gift solicitor with 5 years of directly related experience preferably with a non-profit organization
  • General knowledge of best practices in all areas of fundraising, including special events, annual campaign, planned giving, and e-philanthropy
  • Knowledge of Texas area communities
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize, set and meet goals
  • Experience with board engagement, cultivation, and development
  • Commitment to collaborative, team-driven work
  • Ability to articulate a clear vision that promotes Phoenix House's efforts and inspires both internal and external audiences
  • Energy, drive, and "can do" spirit
  • Bachelor degree required; Masters degree preferred

Compensation commensurate with experience and accomplishmentts.
